More often than not, our priorities center around social status, wealth, acquiring material possessions, wearing the most current designer label and worrying about our reputations. The pursuit of such values can lead to much worry and anxiety. Our worship this Sunday will center around Matthew 6:24-34, where we find encouragement to trust in God's care for us. May we not be so preoccupied with getting so that we can respond to God's giving.

In Acts 2:41-47, we learn what was most important to the community of believers in the early church - teaching/learning, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. We are told that they shared with others from glad and generous hearts.

What is the purpose of the church? What qualities or aspects are most important to you in a church or your community of faith?

This Sunday, we'll share together some of our thoughts and ideas about what is most important to us as members of the HomeStar community of faith.

Our journey through Lent brings us to Palm Sunday. Jesus is preparing to enter Jerusalem. How will we greet him? Will we follow him all the way to the cross?

"Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness and being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross." (Philippians 2:5-8, NRSV)

Friday, March 7, 2008

Sunday, March 9, 2008

Our gathering for the 5th Sunday of Lent will center around the theme "from death to life," with emphasis on the story of the dry bones in Ezekiel 37:1-14. God didn't just revive the people of Israel. God gave to them God's own spirit. We also can find hope as we remember Jesus' words to Martha found in John 11:25-26: "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die."

Thursday, February 28, 2008

Sunday, March 2, 2008

Our worship for the fourth Sunday of Lent will center around the healing of a blind man as recorded in John 9:1-41 and the epistle lesson comes from Ephesians 5:8-14. Jesus proclaims that he is the light of the world - may we continually seek to walk as children of the light.

This Sunday we continue our journey through the Lenten season. Our worship time for the second Sunday of Lent will center around the call of Abraham. As Abraham was called to be a blessing to the nations, so too are we called to be the presence of Christ in the world. May we have the courage to take the risk of faith to be the body of Christ in the world.

Friday, February 8, 2008

Sunday, February 10, 2008

The season of Lent invites us to take a journey - a journey filled with opportunities for reflection, confession, giving up, taking on, and transformation. This first Sunday of Lent our worship time will center around Jesus' experience in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). As you prepare for our worship time, reflect on these questions: Where is your place of wilderness? What are the temptations in your life? For what do you hunger most?
